…This is meant for fun. Please be sincere and courteous .
*********************************************************************
…1. Yesterday, I ate oven-toasted, old-fashioned oats for breakfast. What makes them old-fashioned? Did they come from a house filled with Victorian furniture?
**
…2. I ate a “fun size” (very small) Snickers candy bar – why is that fun? What makes small fun? I think a larger chocolate bar would be more fun.
**
…3. The Food Lion that used to be near us sold “Bake to School” Cakes – what made them “Back to School”? Is that what normally is done when school is back in session?
**
…4. Radial tires - one brand used to be called “steel-gard” – steel is a good word, but gard is not.
**
…5. Second hand is only used these days when talking about cigarette smoke – everything else is “previously owned”. Why don’t we have previously owned smoke, too? (I borrowed this one from Thomas Sowell).
…Here is one more. There is a brand of kids’ vitamins that come in “Circus Shapes”. Does this mean they are shaped like circus tents, animals, etc? What is the shape of a circus?
…Here is another. Giant used to advertise foods that were “more than 1/2 price”. I guess no one realized that means they could be selling for 100% or 150% of the normal price.
…I am sure they meant, “Less than 1/2 price” but i’ll bet nobody noticed that what they said is incorrect.
…How about when folks say that something is “on sale”. I submit what they should say is that it is on sale at a reduced price, and then if someone asks, “What is one sale today?”, one can truthfully answer, “Everything.”
…TV Guide Magazine used to say they were on sale everywhere, and they didn’t mean at a reduced price.
…Last, I like spoonerisms (I think is the correct term), i.e., when I chose not to tell my kids that Santa is real, I saw no CLAUSE for alarm. I put this in another answer and I don’t think anyone noticed (hee, hee).
